Josh Harper
Josh Harper, Principal

Josh Harper is from Kennedy, Alabama and is a 1993 graduate of South Lamar.  He has been working at South Lamar since 2006. He has taught history in grades 7-12 and has served as a football, girls basketball, softball, and bowling coach.

Coach Harper has been married to Jennifer Mordecai Harper since 1997.  They have one son and one daughter. Ian is a 2019 South Lamar graduate. Emma is in the 12th grade at South Lamar.

Coach Harper has enjoyed teaching and coaching the Stallions over the years and looks forward to working with all of the Stallion community as Principal.

Heather Swedenburg
Heather Swedenburg, Assisstant Principal

Heather Kelley Swedenburg currently serves as Assistant Principal, bringing 25 years of experience in education and a strong commitment to student success across all grade levels. She earned her undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Development and Elementary Education from The University of Alabama. She later received both a master’s degree in English Language Arts and Instructional Leadership, as well as her Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree, from University of West Alabama.

Mrs. Swedenburg is certified in K–12 English Language Arts and Science, as well as Elementary Education (Pre-K through 6th grade). Throughout her career, she has taught a wide range of grade levels, giving her a well-rounded perspective on student learning and development from early childhood through high school.

She is a proud mother of two sons and part of a blended family that includes a son and a daughter, all of whom are an important part of her life. She values family, community, and building strong relationships with students, parents, and staff.

In her role as Assistant Principal, Mrs. Swedenburg is dedicated to fostering a positive school culture, supporting teachers, and ensuring that all students receive high-quality instruction in a safe and supportive environment.
