Tommy Chism, Principal
Mr. Chism has been involved in education for over 25 years. He was raised and currently lives in Lamar County. He received his Bachelor's degree in Education at the University of Alabama and his Master's in Administration from the University of North Alabama. He has been at Sulligent School for many years and has served as Physical Education Teacher, High School Assistant Principal, Elementary Principal, and High School Boys Basketball Coach.
Mr. Chism believes that with hard work and dedication we can make an impact on each child's life in a special way that will impact their future positively. Keeping a positive atmosphere is key to success as well as keeping the lines of communication open among staff, students, and parents. He believes that through teamwork a school can be successful in reaching its goal of helping a child attain his/her full potential.
Mr. Chism is excited to serve as the Principal of Sulligent High School and is honored to have this opportunity. He looks forward to a great school year.

Paula Wax
Paula Wax, Assistant Principal
With over 25 years of experience in education, Paula Wax is a dedicated and passionate leader committed to student success. She believes that putting students first and fostering a culture of hard work and dedication are key to helping every child reach their full potential.
Mrs. Wax holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Saint Louis University and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Mississippi State University.
Her career began in the classroom, teaching at South Side Elementary in West Point, MS, and later at East Amory Elementary, where she taught for a combined six years. She then spent six years as an elementary and high school assistant principal in Amory, MS, before moving into district-level leadership.
Mrs. Wax served as the district’s Federal Programs Director for six years and Special Education Director for seven years, where she focused on providing equitable resources, compliance, and support for all learners. She has also shared her leadership and mentorship as a high school basketball coach, helping students grow both on and off the court.
Paula Wax is proud to serve in a role where she can continue supporting students, teachers, and families. Outside of her professional work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and children, and values the strong connections that make a school community thrive.
